The History of Central Paving, Inc.

Bob Brandstatter came to Logansport, Indiana in the summer of 1962 to work as a laborer for Wolf, Construction. In 1967, after obtaining his MBA, he came back to Wolf Construction as a manager of the Butler Buildings Division. He left Wolf Construction in 1974 when he and his friend, Sandy Deichman, purchased the assets of Hedde Ready Mix. Sandy had a small excavating business that Bob joined in 1976, which expanded as the years went on. In 1980, they purchased the assets of MacBurger Ready Mix in Peru, Indiana, thereby expanding the company and renaming it to D & B Ready Mix.

In 1984 Bob and Sandy purchased the assets of Central Paving Co, Inc. renaming it Central Paving, Inc., with Bob as President. In 1988 the ready-mix operations were sold to Irving Materials, Inc. In 1995 it was decided to separate the ownership of the companies, with Bob Brandstatter retaining sole ownership of Central Paving, Inc.
In 2003, Bob’s youngest son Kurt moved home to rejoin the company. Having spent many summers growing up working for Bob, Kurt was excited to be home with the goal of buying his father out and keeping the business family owned. Upon his graduation in 2000 from Western Michigan University, Kurt spent 3 years in Fort Collins, Colorado working as a project manager for Lafarge’s portable highway paving division before moving home.
Kurt wasted no time making big changes. In 2005 he upgraded the AC tank farm with new tanks, piping, and hot oil heater. In 2009 he added a 200 ton silo, slat conveyor, and scales for storing HMA. In 2011 he added a RAP and Shingle System to allow for recycling. All of these upgrades proved fruitful and allowed CPI to compete and prosper.

So in 2015, after many upgrades, Kurt Brandstatter became President and sole owner of Central Paving, Inc. With the buyout complete Kurt knew he must make one more big decision. Replace his 50 year old Batch plant. In the winter of 2017/2018 a new Gencor Batch plant was erected. This enormous project/investment is Kurt’s proudest business accomplishment.

In 2006, Kurt married Dr. Emily Smith whom was also formally from Logansport. They have three children and live within the community they serve.
